European Equities

John Bennett

John Bennett has a 28-year track record of managing European equities. He joined Henderson as a Director of European Equities in April 2011, as part of the Gartmore acquisition. John manages a number of Continental and Pan European portfolios as well as European long/short portfolios. John joined Gartmore in 2010 from GAM where he spent 17 years as a portfolio manager. During this time he managed their flagship European long only and European equity long/short portfolio, which was launched in June 1998. Prior to GAM, John was a portfolio manager at Ivory and Sime and has been a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland since 1987.

Asim Rahman

Asim Rahman joined Henderson in 2011 as a portfolio Manager. He previously worked with John Bennett at Gartmore and GAM where he was an Investment Analyst from 2003. Prior to joining GAM, Asim was a Financial Analyst in Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking Division. Asim holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a CFA charterholder.

Nick Sheridan

Nick Sheridan joined Henderson following the acquisition of New Star. He has proven portfolio manager experience in equities and has been managing money since 1989. Nick worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Wise Speke before joining BWD Rensburg in 1990 as their Director of Gross Strategies and Manager of their Staff Pension Portfolio. Prior to joining New Star in 2007, he worked at Tilney from 2001 as director of European equities. Nick has passed the Securities Industry Diploma and holds a BA (Hons) in Politics from Liverpool University.

Tim Stevenson

Tim Stevenson is Director of European Equities as Henderson and has over 30 years’ investment experience. Tim’s career in the investment industry began in 1983, as a European Analyst at Savory Milln. In 1984 he teamed up with Aetna Montagu Asset Management Limited and was responsible for European Investments for ERISA clients and MIM Pension Portfolios. He joined Henderson in 1986 as a Portfolio Manager for Europe, with responsibility for overseas clients. Tim graduated from Sussex University with a BA (Hons) in Economics and European Studies.

Ian Warmerdam

Ian Warmerdam is Director of Henderson Global Growth Equities. He and his team manage global growth portfolios and growth sleeves of larger global equity portfolios. He has been a Director at Henderson since 2007. Ian joined Henderson in 2001 and has 18 years’ industry experience. Prior to joining Henderson he worked at both Scottish Widows and Scottish Life where his career began as a US equities investment analyst. Ian has an MSc in investment analysis from the University of Stirling. He is an Associate Member of the Society of Investment Professionals (ASIP) and also has a BSc in Technology and Business Studies from the University of Strathclyde.

Alex Crooke

Alex Crooke was appointed Head of Global Equity Income in 2013, bringing together all the equity focused income teams within Henderson. Alex joined Henderson in 1994 as an Associate Director of Investment Trusts after starting his investment career as a US investment analyst with Equitable Life Assurance Society in 1990. He was recruited by Henderson to co-manage the UK assets of an Investment Trust. His role broadened out within Henderson to become a portfolio manager for a number of income based strategies. Alex has been managing Trusts at Henderson for 18 years and is co-manager and lead manager. Alex graduated from Manchester University with a BSc (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics and is an Associate Member of the Society of Investment Professionals (ASIP).

Andrew Jones

Andrew Jones joined Henderson in 2005 as a portfolio manager and is a member of the Global Equity Income team where he manages a number of retail and institutional mandates. Prior to joining Henderson, Andrew worked as a portfolio manager at Invesco Perpetual Asset Management where he started his career in 1995. Andrew graduated from Queens’ College, Cambridge University with a BA (Hons) in Economics and holds the Securities Institute Diploma.

Ben Lofthouse

Ben Lofthouse joined Henderson in 2004 as an Investment Analyst on the Equity Income team. He became a portfolio manager in 2008 and since then has managed a range of Equity Income mandates in both pooled strategies and investment trusts. Prior to joining Henderson, Ben trained as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he started his career in 1998. He graduated from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) in Business Economics and is a CFA charterholder.

Glen Finegan

Glen Finegan joined Henderson in 2015 as Head of Emerging Markets Equities. Most recently, Glen was a senior portfolio manager at First State Stewart (formerly First State Investments) covering global emerging market all capitalisation equity strategies. He managed US$3bn as lead manager and was co-lead managing US$10bn of assets. While at First State, Glen was based in Edinburgh between 2001 and 2011, and in October 2011 he relocated to Singapore. Before joining First State Stewart in 2001, Glen spent three years working as a geophysicist within the oil and gas industry. Glen has both an MSc in Oceanography and a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Southampton.

Fixed Income

Stephen Thariyan

Stephen Thariyan is the Global Head of Credit in charge of the 30-strong credit team of portfolio managers and analysts at Henderson. Prior to joining Henderson in 2007 as Head of Credit, Stephen was a portfolio manager at Rogge Global Partners responsible for investing in corporate bonds and credit derivatives globally. He was previously a director and senior analyst at NatWest Markets’ credit rating and research unit where he led teams of sector analysts in credit research. He started his career as an accountant at Ernst & Young in 1988 and later moved to become senior auditor at Chevron Corporation. Stephen graduated from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne with a BA (Hons) in Accountancy and Financial Analysis.

Tom Ross

Tom Ross joined Henderson in 2002 and has been co-managing Henderson's absolute return credit portfolios since 2006. In August 2015 he was appointed co-manager of a number of European and global bond portfolios. Prior to portfolio management, Tom specialised in credit trading on Henderson's centralised dealing desk where he was able to build strong relationships with market participants in order to gain flow and positioning information to supplement credit views. Tom graduated from Nottingham University with a BSc (Hons) in Biology and is a CFA charterholder.

Kevin Loome

Kevin Loome joined Henderson in 2013 as the Head of US Credit and since then has helped launch and manage a number of portfolios. His career began at Morgan Stanley as an investment banking analyst, before moving on to work at T.Rowe Price as a portfolio manager and analyst. Prior to joining Henderson, Kevin worked at Delaware Investments as the Head of High Yield Investments and senior portfolio manager. Kevin graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and has an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Steve Drew

Steve Drew joined Henderson in 2014 as Head of Emerging Market Credit. He joined from Thames River Capital where he was a portfolio manager and Partner heading the Global Credit team, managing in excess of €1.8bn, around €900m of which was in emerging market credit. Steve has over 20 years of global credit experience across buy and sell-side businesses. He began his career in 1991 at Salomon Brothers as a credit and fixed Income trader, later holding trading roles at Lehman Brothers, Paribas and JP Morgan, where he was Co-head of European Credit Trading. He moved to Sigma in 2002 as a portfolio manager and then to Tudor Capital in 2003. Stephen graduated from Newcastle City University with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics.

Phil Apel

Phillip Apel is Head of Fixed Income at Henderson and chairs the Fixed Income Investment Strategy Group (ISG). He joined Henderson in 2005 as Head of Interest Rate Strategy and established the Rates Alpha Team to drive interest rate strategies in Henderson’s fixed income portfolios, as well as helping to establish the ISG. His career began in 1988 as an assistant portfolio manager at Sun Life of Canada, before progressing to portfolio manager at UBS Global Asset Management, where he later became the Head of Global Sovereign Strategy. He graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BA (Hons) in Economics and is a member of the CFA Institute UK.

Colin Fleury

Colin Fleury joined Henderson in July 2007. He has over 28 years of banking, corporate finance and advisory experience specialising in asset based financing and investing since 1995. Prior to Henderson, Colin held secured credit portfolio management roles at Deutsche Bank and Abbey National Treasury Services. He also has secured debt structuring, underwriting and advisory expertise from roles at Shell International, where he was a senior advisor in the M&A and Financing team, and as a Vice President in the Global Project Finance Group of Credit Suisse. Colin’s experience spans multiple jurisdictions in Europe and worldwide. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Kevin Adams

Kevin Adams is Director of Fixed Income and a member of the Fixed Income Investment Strategy Group (ISG) at Henderson. Kevin’s career in asset management began in 1983 when he was a trainee portfolio manager at Crown Life Assurance. In 1987, he joined NM Funds Management as Director of Fixed Interest and Foreign Exchange. In 1996, Kevin joined AMP Asset Management where he spent five years managing sovereign bond portfolios. He moved to Credit Suisse Asset Management as Director of Fixed Income in 2001 and then joined Henderson in 2003 to take on his current role. Kevin has a BSc (Hons) in Economics with Accountancy from Loughborough University and is an Associate Member of the Society of Investment Professional (ASIP).

Ben Wallace

Ben Wallace joined Henderson as a portfolio manager in 2011 as part of the Gartmore acquisition. Prior to that, Ben worked with Luke Newman as a Senior Investment Manager at Gartmore. Luke Newman joined Henderson as a porfolio manager in 2011 as part of the Gartmore acquisition. Prior to that, Luke worked at Gartmore from June 2009 as co-manager with Ben Wallace on a number of portfolios. Previously, Luke was a UK Portfolio Manager at Deutsche Asset Management running high performance retail and institutional mandates before moving to Foreign & Colonial in 2005. Luke graduated from the University of Warwick with a BSc (Hons) in Economics & Politics.
