A senior investment professional, Job Curtis has managed The City of London Investment Trust since 1991.

He joined Touche Remnant in 1987, subsequently acquired by Henderson Global Investors, and has been head of Henderson's Value & Income investment team since 2003. Job is renowned for his highly successful, conservative investment approach, based on intensive analysis of the fundamentals of each stock, and strict control of risk. 

 

 

Fund Manager's Commentary - January 2012

The UK equity market had a strong start to the year with a positive return of 2.7% as measured by the FTSE All Share Index. Optimism grew that the 3 year Long-Term Refinancing Operation (LTRO) borrowing facility announced by the European Central Bank (ECB) in December had underpinned the European banking sector in the short term even if the sovereign debt problems have yet to be resolved. Shares in the financial sectors performed well as did cyclicals, helped by some mildly encouraging US economic data.

A new holding was purchased in British Land, the London office and retail real estate investment trust (REIT), which benefits from above average lease length on its properties and offers a 5.5% yield. We added to our holding in Centrica, which has a relatively strong balance sheet for a utility and was on a 5.3% yield.
