Investment Strategy
Henderson's investment strategy is to build diversified portfolios of infrastructure concession investments which display relatively low risk:
-
High quality counterparties (including public sector counterparties and consortium partners)
-
Well structured concession contracts and risk transferral
-
Predictable low risk revenue models and equity returns
-
No complex operational or technical delivery requirements
Investments are made in the UK, Continental Europe, North America and Asia across three key sectors:
-
Social e.g. education and health facilities
-
Transportation e.g. roads and street lighting
-
Environmental e.g. waste, water and co-generation facilities
Henderson is an active manager with a demonstrated track record of winning attractive development phase investment opportunities in conjunction with John Laing plc (which is wholly owned by its infrastructure Funds) by adding significant value to bidding consortia.
Henderson also actively seeks to improve the return on investments once they reach the operational stage through value enhancement strategies including:
-
Improvement in the operational efficiency of the assets
-
Active identification and exploitation of cross portfolio synergies
-
Utilisation of tax and accounting efficiencies
-
Improvements to the financial structure
