Global equity markets rose during April. The US market continued its gains as employment and housing data continued to improve. European economic data was mixed but there was increased optimism that the European Central Bank would support economic recovery by lowering interest rates. Confidence was helped by the fact that in Italy, a new coalition government has been formed following months of uncertainty.
